The theme of the conference is adaptive computational methods for differential equations. Adaptation has now become fundamental to the numerically solving differential equations (DEs) arising from science and engineering. It has been amply demonstrated that significant improvements in accuracy and efficiency can be gained by adapting the computation to the physical solution or some other important quantities of the DEs in consideration. An important area of adaptive computation has also proven to be important for many other computational problems related to DEs, including approximation of invariant sets such as invariant tori, inertial manifolds, or connecting orbits that describe the long time behavior of the solution.
Bob Russell has made many groundbreaking contributions to the field, and it is a special privilege to dedicate this conference to Dr Russell in celebration of his 60th birthday.
