BALTIMORE, MD, January 13, 2025 – A groundbreaking new study in the INFORMS journal Transportation Science reveals the severe and far-reaching consequences of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on global food security. The research highlights an urgent need to address disruptions in the transportation of Ukrainian grains, which have caused dramatic price spikes and worsened food insecurity worldwide, particularly in vulnerable regions such as the Middle East and North Africa.

BALTIMORE, MD, November 18, 2024 — Cornell University researcher J.G. “Jim” Dai has been awarded the 2024 John von Neumann Theory Prize by INFORMS, the leading international association for professionals in operations research, analytics, management science and other related fields, for his groundbreaking contributions to the fields of operations research and analytics. The John von Neumann Theory Prize is one of INFORMS’ highest honors, awarded annually to recognize contributions that have stood the test of time for their significance, innovation, depth and scientific excellence.

BALTIMORE, MD, November 18, 2024 – Pinar Keskinocak, a world-renowned professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and past president of INFORMS, has been awarded the 2024 INFORMS President’s Award and George E. Kimball Medal for her long, tireless and visionary contributions to the operations research and management science (OR/MS) profession. The President’s Award recognizes important contributions to the welfare of society by members of the profession at the local, national or global level. The George E. Kimball Medal is awarded for recognition of distinguished service to INFORMS and the OR/MS profession.

BALTIMORE, MD, November 18, 2024 – David Shmoys of Cornell University is awarded the 2024 George E. Kimball Medal for recognition of distinguished service to INFORMS and to the profession of operations research and the management sciences (OR/MS). Shmoys has been a standout member of INFORMS, volunteering countless hours to the betterment of the INFORMS community and the entire OR/MS profession.
